Description

Moving between continents one realises the amount of stuff collected over a lifetime. I really need to lighten the load, while I may part with the objects, the memories of many happy hours spent collecting them will remain forever.
All listed gastropods and bivalves from the late Pliocene Red Crag were
collected over a decade ago during a single visit to the classic site of Walton-on-the-Naze on a very cold winter day, when a fresh slumpa
ge produced
exceptionally good conditions. Since then new sea defences have been built which reduced erosion to a minimum, there is now very little new material.
The bivalve Glycymeris glycymeris is the commonest fossil of the Red Crag. This selection of six individuals represents the normal size range from  30mm to 65mm.
